Financial education training for women microentrepreneurs

On October 17 and 18, 2024, training sessions on financial education and microentrepreneurship were held for 30 women survivors of GBV, within the framework of the project “Consolidating exit routes from gender-based violence in Maputo”, funded by the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation (ACCD).

the training will help me understand my business, evaluate it, create strategies and ideals for its growth

After the self-knowledge and empowerment workshop, the beneficiaries of the project were trained in financial education issues, with the aim of providing them with economic autonomy skills to better manage their businesses.

The first day of the training allowed the beneficiaries to express their doubts related to the growth of their businesses, how to manage the profits obtained and how to save money, among other issues.

With the clarification of doubts, women survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) were challenged to create groups and imagine a business, and this should be based on what they learned in the first class. Each group of beneficiaries then presented their business project to the other groups, exchanging praise, criticism, and suggestions.

The second day was also marked by practical classes, in which the women prepared a family budget, to identify the ideal source of income, organize household expenses and learn how to make basic monthly calculations, with the aim of knowing their type of balance (positive or negative).

In addition, trainer Cecílio Menezes highlighted the following: “With this training, women will be able to prepare and manage their family and business budget, with greater capacity to learn how to spend, save and invest. And, in this way, they will get rid of unnecessary debts and will be able to increase their income, by diversifying their sources of income and making decisions about their money and finances.”

For beneficiary Amilda Nhabavale, “the training will help me understand my business, evaluate it, create strategies and ideals for its growth. In this training I learned to create an ideal business plan, to manage what I earn, to know how to differentiate profits from expenses, to deal with clients and to win clients.”

Ultimately, this training aims to support and provide management and business tools so that women can learn to record their money and all their expenses through financial education techniques; and be able to make the most sustainable decisions with their money, so that they do not compromise their present and ensure social and financial well-being in the future.
