medicusmundi Strengthens Cholera Response by Donating Supplies to Ancuabe's Health Emergency Operations Committee

medicusmundi, through its team in Ancuabe, donated supplies to the Ancuabe district's Health Emergency Operations Committee as part of the ongoing process of strengthening the district's preparedness and response to health emergencies.

Strengthening PHC

A more coordinated, effective, and timely response to health emergencies.

The process began in the last quarter of 2025 with a meeting to revitalize the Emergency Operations Committee. This meeting included technical staff from various sectors of the district's public administration, including the health sector. These meetings facilitated the development of Health Emergency Plans and the identification of intervention priorities based on the district's main threats and risks.

Specifically, in Ancuabe, the planning exercise highlighted cholera as a top priority, enabling the identification of the necessary emergency supplies and equipment to support the response to this health threat. The delivery of these supplies has recently begun and will be carried out in stages, ending on January 21, 2026. This action represents another step in the ongoing work with the Health Emergency Operations Committee of this district.

The donated materials, which include household chlorine solution, soap, buckets, oral rehydration solution, and other essential supplies, aim to strengthen the district's response capacity, supporting the treatment of cholera cases already diagnosed in Ancuabe and preventing the spread of the disease in the communities.

The materials were received by the Permanent Secretary of the District, who chairs the Health Emergency Operations Committee. Following the delivery, instructions were given to distribute the supplies to the District Health, Women, and Social Action Services (SDSMAS) of Ancuabe for their proper management and use.

With this initiative, medicusmundi reaffirms its commitment to strengthening local health systems, promoting a more coordinated, effective, and timely response to health emergencies in the district of Ancuabe.

This activity is part of the AECID Agreement 22-CO1-398 “Improving the quality, coverage and resilience of the Cabo Delgado healthcare system”, implemented by medicusmundi, in collaboration with the National Health System of Mozambique, and financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), with co-financing from Fons Mallorquí and the Catalan municipalities of Lleida and Sant Cugat del Vallès.
