Strengthening PHC Promotion of PHC Advocacy for PHC Social Determinants of Health

The new vehicles will strengthen the responsiveness of health services.

On June 22, 2026, medicusmundi delivered an ambulance to the district of Ancuabe and two motorcycles to the District Health, Women, and Social Action Services (SDSMAS) of Ancuabe and Namuno. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Cabo Delgado Province, Valige Tauabo, the district administrators of Ancuabe and Namuno, the Provincial Director of Health, the directors of the District Health Services, and other representatives of provincial and district authorities.

With this donation, the communities of the districts of Ancuabe and Namuno will have improved access to healthcare services. The new vehicles will strengthen the responsiveness of health services, facilitating the transfer of patients in emergency situations and bringing primary healthcare closer to the most remote communities.

The ambulance, a Toyota Land Cruiser, destined for the Ancuabe district, is equipped with essential equipment for the care and safe transport of patients in emergencies, including a fixed oxygen system and a mobile suction unit. This new resource will improve the response to medical emergencies and strengthen the referral and counter-referral system between health units, especially benefiting pregnant women, newborns, children, and other vulnerable individuals.

The two Honda XL 125 Leke motorcycles will be used by healthcare professionals to reinforce health supervision activities, community monitoring, and support for teams providing care in the most remote areas, contributing to greater accessibility between health services and the population.

During the ceremony, authorities emphasized the importance of the responsible use of these resources to ensure they continue serving the communities that need them most. The district administrator of Ancuabe expressed his gratitude for the support received, underscoring that strengthening transportation capacity is particularly relevant in a context where the district continues to host populations displaced from conflict-affected areas, which has increased the demand for health services. With this delivery, the number of vehicles available under the intervention now includes four motorcycles, two motorized ambulances, and one fully equipped ambulance, progressively reinforcing the operational capacity of health services in the participating districts.
