Medicus Mundi Strengthens the Capacities of Gender-Based Violence Focal Points in the Implementation of the New Comprehensive Care Package in the City of Maputo

Strengthening decision-making capacity, harmonized procedures, and promoting more effective and humane action, aligned with national protocols for survivor care.

The training took place between July 20 and 24, 2026, at the Municipality of Maputo facilities, with the aim of strengthening the technical skills of the professionals responsible for the prevention, care, referral, and follow-up of cases of gender-based violence, through the implementation of the new Comprehensive Care Package.

The training brought together professionals from different sectors and healthcare units in the city of Maputo, as well as from other institutions that are part of the multisectoral response mechanism to gender-based violence, such as social services.

This initiative arose from close collaboration between medicusmundi, the Maputo City Health Service (SSCM), the Social Affairs Service (SAS), and the Municipality of Maputo, reinforcing their shared commitment to consolidating a comprehensive and coordinated response focused on the needs of survivors of gender-based violence.

For five days, participants delved into the content of the new Comprehensive Gender-Based Violence Package and participated in practical sessions based on case studies and simulations of situations that replicate the challenges encountered when providing assistance to survivors. The methodology adopted strengthened decision-making capacity, harmonized procedures, and promoted more effective and humane action, aligned with national protocols for survivor care.

This training represents a further step in strengthening the response system to gender-based violence in the city of Maputo, contributing to increasingly comprehensive, accessible, and high-quality services for women and girls who are survivors.
