Cyclone Idai ravages Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi leaving a trail of destruction
Tropical cyclone Idai, regarded as one of the worst tropical cyclones on record to affect Africa and the Southern Hemisphere as a whole, hit Beira – one of Mozambique’s largest cities – before heading west towards Zimbabwe and Malawi. It has left a trail of destruction affecting thousands of people.
We at medicusmundi express our deepest sympathy and profound sense of solidarity with the families devastated by cyclone Idai which has ravaged these three countries. We especially send our deepest sympathy to all families living in Beira, the capital of Sofala province in Mozambique, for the human and material losses they have suffered. Countless houses have been completely flooded, thousands of families have been made homeless, numerous infrastructure has been damaged and the city has been partially destroyed.
We are joining together with all those who are currently endeavouring to minimize the pain and suffering the country is currently facing.
Our condolences to the affected families.
