World Mental Health Day Campaign in Cabo Delgado

This activity was carried out as part of a humanitarian project funded by the Generalitat Valenciana / Valencian Cooperation.

Strengthening PHC

The Cabo Delgado Provincial Health Service, through its Mental Health Program, gave an interactive talk on October 10 at the 19 de Outubro Secondary School in Pemba, as part of the celebration of World Mental Health Day, with the theme "Access to Mental Health Services in Disasters and Emergencies".

The activity was supported by medicusmundi, a partner that has contributed to strengthening mental health and psychological well-being initiatives in the province.

The meeting brought together health professionals, teachers, and students, promoting an open dialogue about emotional well-being and the risks associated with alcohol and drug use in adolescents. The session was led by psychiatrist Avelino Martins Jamal, clinical psychologist Jamal Mapossa, and psychologist Baina Armando, who highlighted the importance of mental health care as an essential part of every young person's life and future.

As part of the campaign, radio announcements in local languages, the distribution of informational posters and brochures, and community theatre performances addressing the importance of promoting access to mental health services in the districts of Ancuabe and Montepuez are also planned.

The celebration of World Mental Health Day in Pemba reinforced the health sector's commitment to promoting open dialogue, combating stigma, and building a more aware, resilient, and prepared generation to face life's challenges.

This activity is part of the humanitarian project "Improving the provision of quality health services to the displaced population and host communities of Ancuabe and Montepuez with a focus on particularly vulnerable groups", implemented by medicusmundi and funded by the Generalitat Valenciana / Valencian Cooperation.
