On the 20th of May, the medicusmundi team in Cabo Delgado, with the Ancuabe District Government, celebrated the pilot experience launching on "model communities" in the fight against chronic malnutrition within the scope of the project "Improve health of the population influencing its Social Determinants, with a special focus on nutrition, through the strengthening of Primary Health Care as the best strategy to ensure the right to health and the collaboration of civil society, research institutions and the SNS", funded by the International Cooperation Agency Spanish for Development (AECID).
Following the commitment that medicusmundi has been assuming in recent years to fight child malnutrition from a multidisciplinary approach, this pilot experience aims to combine the efforts of the different district services (SDPI, SDAE, SDEJT and SDSMAS), developing activities in the Naputa community in a coordinated manner and with the community's commitment to jointly eradicate cases of child malnutrition.
In this launch of the "model community" in Naputa, we had the presence of Exma. District Administrator, Ms. Lúcia G. Namashulua, who in her speech recognized the importance of joining efforts between the different actors working for the common good of the population of Ancuabe and thanked medicusmundi for the support it has been giving in this regard.
In addition, during the day there was also space for a theatrical performance of young people from the district who, in the local language and causing laughter among the neighborhood of Naputa, launched the message about the importance of consuming a varied diet based on local products to improve nutrition. and community health, recalling the slogan: "Nourished community, healthy community".
Before the closing of the event, a representative of the district services explained the agenda of activities planned for the coming weeks and months with the participation of each sector, including: training of teachers and the school pedagogical team, delivery and distribution of vegetable seeds, training for the water committee and installation of tipy-tap hand washing systems cooking demonstrations, lectures-debate on community food practices, among many others that will be progressively developed in the coming months.
